Season One - Episodes 9 & 10 Ep. #1.9 “Home” Sam has visions of someone in trouble at their old house so they return back to Lawrence Kansas to see if the evil force in the house is the same one that killed their mother. This episode is a pretty good one. I especially like the evil poltergeist locking the young kid in the fridge. We don’t learn much about the entity that killed Sam and his brother’s mom but we do learn a little bit about what’s been up with their father. He even shows up later on…but he can’t say “Hi” to the kids…not yet anyway. The mystery continues.
The simmering tension between Sam and Dean concerning the continued absence of their father bubbles to the surface while they are investigating the haunted ruins of an insane asylum. It’s still taking me some time to warm up to Sam’s character but I have to share his annoyance with the missing dad thing. I mean enough already. I think this show would be better off if they dispensed with the “thing that killed their mom and his girlfriend and made dad go missing plot” and just get on with the week to week supernatural ass-kicking. But maybe that’s just me. I’ve become a strong believer in having ongoing plot lines stay in the background most of the time and only surface every now in then. The mystery on top of mystery thing…again…enough already. But dad finally calls at the end of this week’s show so maybe there’s hope. As far as the story for this episode,
it was an easy sell for me because I’m always a fan of the haunted
old building thing. In this case the place is haunted by the evil spirit
of some mad scientist who tortured the insane with his experiments.
