MASTERS OF HORROR: JOE DANTE'S "HOMECOMING"
By Ken Leicht

The latest entry in the MASTERS OF HORROR anthology is Joe Dante’s “Homecoming.” In this episode, war vets come back from the dead to vote their disapproval of the current administration…literally. When the votes of the dead people start to affect election results in ways the powers that be don’t like, its up to the spin masters to stop it.

This episode has a good premise but ultimately I found the satire to be way too ham-fisted and obvious. It might as well have been screaming “George Bush Sucks!” I was, as is usual with this anthology series, under whelmed. And again, as is usual with this series, not scared. Really the only cool thing about it was that when the zombies voted, they would go back to being dead. The rest barely registers in my memory save for a “Ha ha” tip of the hat to Romero on a gravestone.

This episode should have been better. This SERIES should be better. It’s becoming like homework having to watch it every week. Here’s hoping Landis can revert to his pre-“The Stupids” form with his segment next week.
