MATTHEW HELMS

Matthew Helms is a 16 year old actor, perhaps best known for his role as "Dennis" in the feature film, Cabin Fever. Fans of the film and the horror genre recall "Pancakes, pancakes, P A N C A K E S !!!" and the Bunny Man scene. Director Eli Roth and Lions Gate Films arranged a special feature of Matt performing martial arts for the Cabin Fever DVD.

Matt is also well known for his martial arts abilities, which impressed CF director Roth so much that he rewrote the Dennis character to incorporate martial arts. Matt is a 4th degree black belt in TAI Karate, a style based in Kenpo Karate and Juijitsu. He also holds black belts in Tae Kwon Do, Moo Duk Kwan/Tang So Do and Okinawan Kobujitsu. Matt is a martial arts weapons expert and martial arts choreographer and instructor and has trained in martial arts for thirteen years.

Matt was born on Halloween, 1989 in Atlanta, GA and spent most of his youth in North Carolina, where he was able to work in such films as The Patriot and Black Knight. When he was nine years old, Matt was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. After holding his own with Jay in the interview segment, Matt went on to break Jay's watch fending off punches, break some bricks and boards and pull a joke on Marilu Henner. By the way, Jay if you read this, Matt wants to remind him you promised him a Harley Davidson motorcycle for his 16th birthday.

Matt presently resides in the Denver, Colorado area and actively pursues his acting career while attending area and national conventions. He is home-schooled and gives private martial arts lessons at a local Tae Kwon Do sports center. His other interests include dancing (where he has won several competitions), drawing and most sports. Matt is 6'1" tall and 140 pounds and very athletic from his martial arts training. He is the only athlete to win four gold medals at the 2005 State Games of America and one day hopes to compete on the U.S Olympic Tae Kwon Do team.

"I have never been to Denver before, and it looks oddly like Iceland, except with more traffic and a little more sunlight. Barbara and I introduced the movie, and out in the audience I saw a familiar shock of white blonde hair that made me think of one thing: pancakes. Matthew Helms, who played pancake karate Dennis in CABIN FEVER lives in the Denver area, and he came to the screening tonight with his parents Tony and Becky, who I remember very well from the shoot in North Carolina. Matt is about twelve feet tall now, and I'm just glad I was nice to him because he's much bigger than me and is a karate master. Matt's one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of working with, and I appreciated that he wore his vampire fangs to the screening. If anyone reading this is making a film you have to cast him, he's a genius."
