JOE BOB BRIGGS

Acclaimed Drive-in Movie Critic, Comedian, Awarding-winning Journalist, Television Personality, Satirical Writer and Actor

Journalist, actor, satirist, author and television personality, Joe Bob Briggs has had a varied career that includes three National Magazine Award nominations, the Edgar Allan Poe Award for his true-crime novel, and two Cable ACE nominations for his long-running TV shows, "Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater" and "MonsterVision." Joe Bob's unique take on the world has him sending up everything from drive-in movies to the International Monetary Fund, Silicon Valley to silicone implants.


He was the youngest reporter to ever be hired by the Arkansas Democrat in Little Rock, Arkansas at the ripe age of 15, and also the youngest reporter to cover major league baseball during a stint at the Philadelphia Inquirer. He is best known in journalism for his syndicated satirical column, "Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In," which appeared in 300 newspapers over two decades.


Briggs has worked for some of the most serious high-brow publications in America but also toured with a one-man comedy show, "Joe Bob Dead in Concert," which evolved into a theatrical piece with story-telling, comedy and music that was performed in more than 50 venues including Caroline’s in New York and the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Beginning in 1986 he hosted the weekly “Drive-In Theater,” which became the highest rated program on The Movie Channel, sister network of Showtime. After a 10-year run, he jumped to the TNT network, where he hosted the weekly “MonsterVision.” Joe Bob began taking roles in major motion pictures, including "Casino," "The Stand," "FaceOff," "Great Balls of Fire," and many horror genre pictures including Stephen King's "All That You Love Will Be Carried Away.” In the late nineties he was a regular correspondent on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."


During his TV and film career, Briggs remained an active writer, covering the 9/11 attacks for United Press International and working as a contributing editor to The National Lampoon, freelancing for Rolling Stone, Playboy, the Village Voice, Talk Magazine, and many other popular magazines including a humorous sex advice column in Penthouse and as a regular humor columnist and theater critic at the National Review.


Briggs has authored eight successful books, including a picaresque novel, four books of satirical social commentary, a true crime story which became an ABC television movie, and the two most recent--works of cultural film criticism called "Profoundly Disturbing: Shocking Movies That Changed History" and "Profoundly Erotic: Sexy Movies That Changed History."
