HOLLA
By Aine

I’m ashamed to admit it, but a long time ago I used to be a lowly temp at a certain local law school. It was tedious work but while there I met H.M. Coakley. When I left it behind and moved on with my life I never suspected I’d see him again until one fateful day I was shuffling around a random convention and low and behold, there stood H.M.

After an excited exchange of updates he promised to send along a copy of Holla, the horror film he had told me about back in the writing stages. Upon receiving it I was impressed with the presentation and cover, hey, I’m a sucker for pretty packaging.

Holla, as you may have guessed by its name, is a black horror film. A rarity, but nonetheless welcomed. It tells the tale of an actress seeking a cabin-in-the-woods style getaway with friends. Unfortunately we all know what happens when a group of beautiful young people go to a cabin, they’re gleefully slaughtered of course, and the fact that these folks are black is no exception.

While the premise is old the goods are still delivered, sometimes in a highly comedic way. With a strong aspect of whodunit throughout, the suspense and laughs keep coming despite the horror clichés which are almost parodied in this instance. Holla has been successfully touring the festival circuit and has a great deal of positive buzz. Whether you’re black or not, it’s an enjoyable horror romp and worth seeing.

Holla is slated for a fall release with a limited theatrical run to be followed by the DVD. For more information please visit www.hollathemovie.com
