| A HISTORY OF
VIOLENCE
Tom and Edie Stall are the perfect small-town couple: Tom (Viggo Mortensen) owns the local diner while Edie (Maria Bello) is a local lawyer. Totally in love with each other, they live in a great farm-style home with horses and such, attend the local church every Sunday, and have two wonderful children and a “mucho-caliente” sex life. Little does this picture-perfect couple know that their ‘simple’ life is about to take a drastic turn when, two “dirt-bags” come to town and try to rob Tom’s diner…… Bad move on the part of the “dirt-bags” as Tom alleviates the problem in a very unconventional way, thus making him the ‘home-town hero’ and bringing national notoriety, which was the last thing he wanted……. This is one helluva ride! But, what else would you expect from the man who brought us Scanners? I must admit that at first I was sitting back thinking that I was about to see some boring drama about a man, woman and their kids and how maybe the man was abusive, blah, blah, blah. I was also thinking that maybe Cronenberg had gotten ‘soft’. Boy was I WRONG!! This is a great tale of how easily your past (as well as lies) can catch up with you and puts a new story out there; actually giving us something original and interesting to watch. Although I would not list this under the ‘horror’ genre, I would for sure put it under my list of violent, gore-induced films to purchase when it arrives on DVD-not to mention the fact that Viggo and his ass got me all warm & fuzzy inside!
