Hollywood Collector's Show
Beverly Garland - N. Hollywood, CA
October 4th & 5th, 2003
Saturday, October 4th: There were four dealer rooms that I completely
ignored; I'm not made of money and I was in a hurry to say hi to
Sid Haig and
Bill Moseley. I had to fight my way
past the great hoard of Val Kilmer worshipers, and made a mental note to
use the other entrance from then on.
I passed by Andrew Prine, and his wife, Heather Lowe; I fear Andrew Prine
a great deal, so I didn't speak to him. I also passed by Steve Railsback,
even though he looked really lonely; after all, he was sitting next to Prine
and I was afraid he would get me if I came too close. I continued by and
came across Kevin McCarthy, one of the best portrayers of assholes in the
world. He was actually quite nice.
Tippi Hedren was there, looking beautiful and still making me jealous after
all these years. Edwin Neal (The Hitchhiker from Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
was propped up against the back wall peddling his memorabilia and bringing
the world joy and laughter; I enjoyed harassing him all weekend. Stay tuned
for an interview with Ed Neal soon.
A familiar woman kept smiling at me, and after an awkward moment of thinking
I was being hit on, I realized that it was Jenette Goldstein! Some of my
fondest childhood movie memories involve her, and I was pleased to discover
that she was very nice; she granted me an interview, and signed a photo to
my mom. Click here
to read my interview with Jenette.
Of course, all of that took place within twenty minutes or so, and Larra
and I spent the rest of the day harassing Sid Haig and Bill Moseley. What
can I say about them? Sid is still the sexiest man alive, and Bill is
hilarious
and he can also spit a piece of candy half way across a room,
even in high winds. I'd tell you that Bill is nice, but he made me swear
not to tell anyone
.oops
sorry Bill.
Sunday, October 5th: We came in somewhat late, as it was a rather
rough night at the motel we stayed in. Returning to our post, we continued
to bug Sid and Bill, and once again we were suckered into fetching them their
lunches. After spending some more time chatting with Ed Neal, I went over
to talk to William Katt. Not much to say there, just that I talked to William
Katt.
I took advantage of a moment when Andrew Prine went away, and went over to
Steve Railsback, a.k.a. Mr. Smooth; he has a Johnny Cash/Tommy Lee Jones
kind of cool about him. He introduced himself to me as "Steve." What a cool
guy; and he's promised me an interview at the
Chiller Convention later this
month.
As things were wrapping up I did my interview with Jenette Goldstein, who
then introduced Larra and me to Daniel Roebuck, who then introduced me to
Duane Whitaker, amazing. Then we ran into Ron
Jeremy
very
uhm
interesting. We said our goodbyes soon after
that, and went immediately home to the comfort of our own beds.
This was definitely not a horror show, and I can't wait to see Sid, Bill,
Steven Railsback, and all the rest at a convention where they'll be better
appreciated.
