Days of Darkness – Burbank,
CA May 22-23rd
Another new horror show,
another new Creation Entertainment show, will they ever stop?
I don’t know if its poor advertising or the jaded population
of southern California, but the turnout was definitely less
than expected. The guests at this show should have made any
good horror maven cream their shorts, if only they had been
there to witness it. Guests included: Sid Haig, Bill Moseley,
Ken Foree, Irwin Keyes, Tony Todd, R.A. Mihailoff, Andrew Bryniarski,
Reggie Bannister, Gigi Fast Elk Bannister, Robert Englund, George
Romero, Tom Savini, Jeff Burr, Duane Whitaker, J.R. Bookwalter,
Jonathan Breck, Edwin Neal, some really kick ass vendors, and
the list goes on. There were also panels galore, with Robert
Englund, George Romero, Sid Haig, Tom Savini, and a great panel
for House of 1,000 Corpses/The Devil’s Rejects, with Sid
Haig, Bill Moseley, Irwin Keyes, and Ken Foree. (See photos
below)
Creation does an odd thing
where people who pay outrageous prices are permitted entry into
what can only be described as an ice cream social: The celebrity
guests are forced to attend this event in the evening and hop
from table to table to “chat” with these special
V.I.P. members. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d feel
like a dork if I had to pay a celebrity to spend time with me,
but to each his own I guess.
After the Saturday evening
ice cream social I hopped on over to the Rue Morgue Magazine
party being held at Dark Delicacies. Eli Roth was there, and
he was as cute and uber-energetic as ever. Alas, I did not stay
long, just long enough to laugh at a few cheesy jokes and stare
at the horrific goodness of the other attendees. I swear, for
folks from Canada, I sure do see a lot of the Rue Morgue crew,
and I hear nothing but good things about them.
By Sunday morning I was cranky and tired, so I sat on my ass
for a large portion of the day eating salads and M & Ms
(It’s a healthy balance according to Sid Haig) I wondered
over to harass Ed Neal for several hours, and kept my distance
from Jonathan “The Creeper” Breck, he doesn’t
blink very often, I am frightened. Perhaps the next Days of
Darkness show will turn out better, or at least bigger, perhaps
a different location? One can only hope.
