The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
By Aine

The Lost Skeleton of CadavraA horrible, misunderstood mutant, space aliens, a scientist, a woman with an animalistic nature, and a skeleton bent on world dominance; what do these all have in common? The answer is atmoshpherium, a substance found in a meteor that has landed on earth.

Dr. Paul Armstrong (Larry Blamire), the scientist, and his wife Betty (Fay Masterson) head into the country to seek out this meteor, after all, it could help Dr. Armstrong in his study of science, as he keeps mentioning. Betty just wants a nice vacation, but it is not to be. While Paul and Betty are arriving, another scientist is in town, Dr. Roger Fleming (Brian Howe). Dr. Fleming finds his way to Cadavra Cave, where he discovers “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.” He uses his scientific formula to rouse the skeleton, who proceeds to taunt and humiliate him, then sends him to search for atmospherium, the only thing that can bring him fully back to life.

Soon after, another meteor crashes to earth, or so everyone thinks; but it is really the crash landing of an alien space craft from the planet Marva. The alien couple is fantasticly rigid and strange, as they also search for atmospherium which they need to power their ship and return home. Krobar (Andrew Parks) and Lattis (Susan McConnell), the aliens, must also search for their pet mutant (Darrin Reed) who is on the loose, and shoot him with their “transmutatron”, a gun which changes people or animals into different, more acceptable creatures.

A farmer is “horribly mutilated” by an unseen foe, which we can only assume is the mutant. Krobar and Lattis learn that Dr. Armstrong and Betty have the meteor and use their transmutatron to change themselves into humans, though rather unconvincingly. Meanwhile the sinister Dr. Fleming steals the transmutatron and turns it onto four forest animals, who then become the sexy, dancing Animala (Jennifer Blaire). Both couples try to get the atmospherium from the Armstrongs in an amusing dinner scene that gets stranger as the time passes.

Eventually Animala lures Dr. Armstrong and the meteor out of the house with a rhythmic dance sequence, but not before the mutant strikes again, horribly mutlilating Ranger Brad (Dan Conroy). Betty goes in search of Paul and is kidnapped by the mutant, who falls in love with her, much like King Kong. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a spoof/tribute to those cheesy ‘50’s sci-fi films. Did I mention the entire thing is in black and white and filmed in “Skeletorama?” whatever that means?

So Cadavra, the evil skeleton, has now risen, and in between naps he forces Krobar and Lattis to dance for his amusement. By this time, the mutant shows up and ends up thwarting the skeleton’s plans. A fantastic and hilarious battle ensues between them, reminiscent of the Sinbad movies, but I don’t want to give too much away. You’ll just have to experience the “Skeletorama” for yourself.
