LOU PERRYMAN

Lou Perryman has worked in the film business for over 40 years, both behind and in front of the camera.
He was called something like "the most gonzo actor alive" by none other than Joe Bob Briggs, the king of the Drive-in Movie.
His interest in film began when he visited on an early Austin WWII movie originally called "None But the Brave" but later re-titled as "Mission to Death" while on leave from the US Army in 1961. Later he helped out on one of Tobe Hooper's early films called "The Heisters" (1963.)
After he got out of the Army, he worked on various
jobs as photographer, including the Texas Pavilion at the World's Fair (Hemisfair)
in San Antonio in 1968. Going on staff at Filmhouse in Austin with Ron Perryman
and Tobe Hooper he became a cinematographer, soundman, and production manager.
During this time he assisted both Ron and Tobe on many films and commercials
including Tobe Hooper's "Peter, Paul and Mary: Song is Love" (1970)
and Tobe's first feature "Eggshells" (1971). That same year he went
off to do the Mountain Man thing in Colorado and returned to Texas in 1973 to
work for Tobe on "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as Camera Assistant.
These experiences got Lou interested in trying his
hand at acting, which led to lead roles in "The Tomato that Ate Cleveland"
for Bruce Maness, "A Hell of A Note” in 1974 and "The Whole
Shootin' Match" in 1978 for Eagle Pennell. All this time, he worked behind
the camera on numerous productions and ran a film equipment rental company in
Austin. In 1978 he went to Los Angeles to work for Birns and Sawyer and to continue
working as an actor appearing in "The Time of Your Life" at the Beverly
Hills Playhouse. Soon he appeared in "The Blues Brothers" (1980).
He also got a chance to appear with Richard Pryor and Jack Nicholson, but his
scenes didn't make the final edit.
He returned to Texas to appear in "Fast Money"
(1981) a low-budget movie dealing with the drug trade with Sonny Carl Davis,
then went back to California to appear in "Poltergeist" (1982) for
Tobe Hooper, and then returned again to Texas to appear in Eagle Pennell's "Last
Night at the Alamo" (1984) written by original TCSM writer Kim Henkel.
In 1986, Lou appeared in the next TCSM movie as L.G.
McPeters in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II" with Dennis Hopper, Caroline
Williams, Bill Mosely and Bill Johnson.
Since then he has appeared in "The Cellar"
(1988), a thriller shot in Arizona, numerous episodes of "Walker, Texas
Ranger" and many TV movies, and done stage work all over Texas in plays
such as "Fool for Love" and the nationally acclaimed stage show "In
the West" (later filmed as "Deep in the Heart"), for which he
was a co-writer.
The last film of note Lou appeared in was the Oscar-winning
movie "Boys Don't Cry" (1999) with Hillary Swank in which he played
the real-life character Sheriff Laux.
Lou is now awaiting the release of an indie feature "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town" directed by John Schultz and "$5.15/Hour" (HBO Pilot) directed by Richard Linklater.
