| AUGUST UNDERGROUND
Never in my life have I been appalled by a film, until I watched Fred Vogel’s August Underground. The first time I saw this film I was shocked beyond belief and turned it off. Thinking that I had just witnessed something that I shouldn’t have, I made a few calls to reassure myself that this was only a movie. This shit is not only sick and twisted beyond any realms, but there is such a vile and raw nature to it that makes it hard to turn away. August Underground is a documentary (of-sorts) where the main character is a video camera, which shows you life through the eyes of two sociopaths who thrive on sadomasochistic brutality and torture. A snuff film in all senses of the term, this film literally makes you feel what the victims are feeling as well as delve into the sick minds of the killers. Shot entirely on video, August Underground is one of the most disturbingly-beautiful films simply for the fact that it takes a shaky video camera, bad lighting and great effects to bring about what every person really wants to see: REALITY. Just look at all of the reality-type shows as well as the daily news in general; with all of these kids taping their escapades (rape, paint-ball attacks, gang initiations, etc.) this is hard-core reality at its finest. Toe-Tag Pictures has recently re-released August Underground
in a two-disc DVD with 3 special commentaries, a behind-the-scenes look,
and tons of other goodies. Although not for the easily offended, I think
that everyone should experience August Underground at least once. Copyright ©2005, myamalgam.com. All rights
